Program Overview
Our mission is to provide education, training, case management, advocacy and supportive services to increase employability to those living within the Blackfeet Nation. The course is designed to prepare students to pass the HSE test and training to transition into further education, employment and training opportunities.
Before we begin Essential Education© Course work, students will complete 12 hours of orientation, in which they will register and take the TABE test (if they haven’t already), as well as learn about the course expectations and how the completion of this course relates to achievement of their goals. Each week, HSE academics and employability skills are delivered concurrently and contextually within the Essential Education curriculum.
Class will be held from 8:30am – 11:30am and 1:00pm – 3:00pm Mondays through Wednesdays, with Thursday and Friday as independent study/homework hours. Students will attend training from 2:00pm -3:00pm on Mondays through Wednesdays. The lessons and in-class activities are designed to enhance academic and employability skills in the context of the HSE certification and employability skills curriculum and work/training experiences. The HSE skills obtained are aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
Upon completion, successful students will have achieved the JRT certification, Financial Literacy, other training (upon availability), HSE diploma (where applicable), and employability skills, as they will have spent 24 experience hours in the actual classroom training.
Expectation and Goals
Try to keep in mind that we learn in many different ways. 200 hours of learning will be covered during the 12-week course. Because of pace and intensity of the course objectives, students are expected to attend class regularly and be active participants, both within the online classroom and in their training/skill building experiences.
